New York Fashion Week spring/summer 2016 has called it a wrap after giving us some glimpses into up and coming styles. So, while everyone else is looking fashion forward, why don’t WE stop… and take a look back. It won’t be hard to spot the five decades’ worth of hot trends that are beginning to make their comebacks.
Take patches for instance. In 2006, Anne Hathaway managed to look pretty AND professional by wearing her patch like a badge. In 2016, Rihanna proves that patches aren’t just for blazers anymore by mixing it up on a black leather biker jacket.
Nothing says 1996 like TYRA BANKS. As one of the ORIGINAL supermodels, TYRA defined chic. And what was her definition? Stripes. Elegant stripes.
Not feeling fancy? That’s ok, too. In 2016, take a hint from Kim and Khloe Kardashian and dress it down… No matter the decade, you can’t go wrong with stripes.
Who’s that girl in metallic? Though Madonna has never lacked luster, she shimmers particularly brightly in this 1986 party dress. Like what you see? Flash to Oscars 2016 and check out Sarah Hyland’s modern take on metallic. Wearing a sleeveless, silver, mermaid dress, Sarah sparkles on the Red Carpet.
In 1976, mixing prints was all the rave! The brighter, the better! Feeling nostalgic for fashions gone by? No worries. Beyonce, donning patterns galore, leads the way in 2016. Looking bold in this miscellaneous mixture of prints; she lets it be known that fashion is in the eye of the beholder.
It’s time to take this home with a stunning 1966 Candice Bergen. Not afraid to bare some skin, Bergen is daring for this decade in white short-shorts and open ended blouse. Following suit in 2016 should be easy, just ask Kate Beckinsale. Looking exquisite in a white, plunging neck, sheath, evening gown, Beckinsale effortlessly demonstrates how to pull a hot trend from the past
Well, that’s it for now girls. Thanks for joining me on my walk down memory lane.
